About
Aaron Vinod John is a sailor, builder, and entrepreneur from New Zealand.
He was born on 19 December 2008 into a Malayali family in Kerala, South India. Ethnically Keralite, he spent much of his childhood growing up in Kuwait before eventually moving to New Zealand.
He spends a lot of his time thinking about boats, technology, business, and how to build an unconventional life around the things he genuinely enjoys.
Aaron eventually found his way into sailing. What started as an interest became a major part of his life. He has sailed different boats, spent time cruising around northern New Zealand, and started documenting the journey online.
He’s also interested in building things.
Aaron is fascinated by private equity and business acquisitions, wealth management, investing, and the mechanics of building and managing wealth. He’s equally obsessed with yacht design, often going down extremely nerdy rabbit holes about hulls, rigs, propulsion, stability, materials, and how boats could be designed differently.
Then there’s aviation. He likes flying airplanes and is interested in the world of aviation and becoming a professional pilot.
But sailing is still a big part of it.
He enjoys cruising, exploring, and being on the water—but racing is where things get particularly exciting. There’s something about pushing a boat hard, making decisions quickly, and trying to squeeze every bit of performance out of it that he genuinely loves.
Aaron is also, by his own admission, nerdy about some very specific things.
He tends to become deeply interested in subjects that catch his attention, whether that’s marine engineering, technology, finance, aviation, boat design, or some completely obscure subject he happened to discover.
His thoughts are often unconventional.
He doesn’t particularly enjoy the idea of living a completely normal life or simply following the path everyone else follows. He’s ambitious, curious, and interested in seeing how far he can take the ideas that occupy his mind.
This website is a record of that journey.
It’s where he documents the things he’s building, the places he’s going, the ideas he’s working on, and the life he’s creating.
Build things. Go places. Stay curious.

He’d rather design a yacht than buy one.
He gets disproportionately excited when a sailboat is racing.
He can spend three hours researching something nobody asked about.
He has an obsession with money.
He doesn’t have much interest in living a completely conventional life.
He likes ideas that sound slightly crazy at first.
He’s ambitious. Sometimes excessively so.

Captured Moments
Moments I couldn’t let slip away. They’re pieces of memory I keep close, reminders of where I’ve been and what I’ve seen. Looking back at them feels like revisiting chapters of my own story.
